Collector's Quality, RARE Deformed 5.62" Fossil Megalodon Tooth - South Carolina

Species - Carcharocles megalodon

Age - Pliocene-Miocene - Appx 4-7 million years old

Remarks - Absolutely unreal pathologically deformed Fossil Megalodon Tooth from a coastal river in South Carolina. This gem measures an impressive 5.62 inches in length and features sharp serrations and nice tip. On its own this is a very high quality tooth well worthy of almost any collection.......however there is much more to this one than you see at first glance!!

Look closely at the upper left root corner and you'll find a substantial deformity where the enamel and serrations curl inward on the tooth. Just above that on the root itself there is another small piece of enamel sitting alone as if on a pedestal. We've only noticed this deformity on a handful of teeth (literally maybe 3-4 other teeth in almost 30 years!) and it's amazing to see how clearly defined it is on this one. This is a tooth for even the most advanced collectors. 

Dark River scuba for Megalodon Teeth is not for everybody! These brave divers face conditions like low visibility, waters infested with alligators, and high traffic of boats.

Carcharocles megalodon was the largest shark in history and one of the world's largest predators in general. This massive animal lived during the Early Pliocene-Late Miocene epochs (approximately 3.5-8 million years ago) and its ancestors (Carcharocles chubutensis, angustidens, auriculatus, aksuaticus, and Otodus obliquus) date back to around 60 million years ago. This shark reached lengths of at least 60 feet (18 meters) with a weight of around 50 TONS. This is more than three times the length of the largest Great White Shark but with an overall mass 25 TIMES more than the Great White. Quite simply the megalodon shark was the most amazing and intriguing shark of all time.

For the most part all that remains of this enormous shark are the fossilized megalodon teeth.
